The Mentor Program Coordinator's Roles

The Mentor Program Coordinator needs to serve as a:
  • Manager:
    • Plan, arrange, schedule
    • Administer budgets, stipends, & other program cost areas
    • Set performance expectations
    • Monitor program functions
    • Evaluate program & plan improvements
    • Report to immediate supervisor, Board, and other managers
  • Facilitator:
    • Selection and matching of mentors & proteges in collaboration with protege's supervisor
    • Peer support group meetings for mentors, for proteges
    • Arranging released time for mentoring pairs when needed
    • Internal program communications
    • Mentor Program Steering/Advisory Committee meetings
  • Trainer:
    • Initial & on-going mentor and protÈgÈ training
    • Pair coaching training
    • Initial and on-going supervisor training
    • Develop & coach mentors to assume roles in future mentoring training
  • Problem Solver
    • Resolve mentor/protege mismatches and other stake holders' concerns
    • Conflict resolution meetings within mentoring pairs, and if needed ...
    • Dissolve mismatched mentors & proteges & develop a better match
    • Trouble shoot with persons not meeting program expectations
    • Resolve scheduling & program problems
  • Mentor:
    • Mentor of the Mentors, modeling best mentoring practice
    • Help any proteges whose mentor does not have the needed strengths
  • Other duties as assigned (of course)
