New Manager - Protege Needs Assessment:
With Topics & Structure Derived From Research on New Manager Needs

© 2008, Barry Sweeny

The topics used in this needs assessment are many of those things for which a new manager might be concerned. In fact, they are typically the highest priority topics assessed when a broader list is used. Of course, your organizations expectations and setting may require adding a few other topics to this "priority" listing. Feel free.

However, what will not be obvious to you is the underlying structure for the design of this needs assessment and the theoretical  basis for the use of data accumulated by this instrument. In fact, that basis is the most accurate and practical model for professional development this author has ever seen. It is that research-based model which makes the use of the data so powerful and effective for planning and improvement of training and mentoring.

For help with that model and it's use in analysis of data from this instrument, contact Barry and arrange for some consulting time with him to explore the "Concerns-Based Adoption Model" for staff development.

Dear New Manager Protege,

The Orientation, Training & Mentoring Program wants to support your professional growth. To guide mentors to be their most effective, we are collecting data that identifies your own sense of need. For this data to be useful, we need your very candid responses. That is why we promise that your mentor will be the only person to ever see your responses.

Please tell us the level of concern you currently feel for the following topics by circling one of the numbers. Thanks very much.
